MY STORY / NATHAN NICHOLSON

I've done more than recruit.
I've built.

I'm a mortgage industry professional who believes that better outcomes come from understanding the person, the business and the team behind the numbers.

MY BACKGROUND

A career shaped by real production.

My mortgage career started on the production side. That experience shaped how I think about the industry: the pressure of building a pipeline, the importance of great operations, and what it takes to keep customers and referral partners confident.

Over time, I moved into leadership, business development, branch growth and recruiting. I've worked across retail, broker, correspondent, banking and independent mortgage banking environments—different models, but the same underlying challenge: helping good people succeed.

I've led teams, hired and developed mortgage professionals, and worked with branches at meaningful scale. I know the operational questions worth asking and the difference between a recruiting promise and an onboarding reality.

Today, I bring those experiences to conversations with loan officers, branch managers and mortgage leaders. My goal isn't to push a transition. It's to understand whether an opportunity aligns with where someone wants to go.

THE EXPERIENCE BEHIND THE CONVERSATION

Producer. Partner. Growth leader.

01 / PRODUCTION

Earn credibility in the work.

My background includes originating loans and leading production. My public SMP biography describes an early career decision to put a customer's interests first, followed by production success at First Residential Mortgage. That responsibility still shapes how I recruit.

02 / BUILDING TOGETHER

Nine years. Three companies. Two partners.

With two other partners, I spent nine years building a branch across three mortgage companies. Together, we grew to approximately $400M in annual volume and 30–40 originators. It taught me to evaluate the entire business: leadership, operations, economics, and the people doing the work.

03 / MULTIPLE MORTGAGE MODELS

Understand how the business works.

I've helped build businesses across broker, retail, correspondent, banking, and independent mortgage banking environments. I bring that perspective when discussing the tradeoffs behind a move.

04 / NATIONAL GROWTH

Help people build their next chapter.

Today, as EVP of National Growth and Development at Success Mortgage Partners, I bring production and branch-building experience to conversations with originators, managers, and mortgage leaders.

MY RECRUITING CAREER

Billions in volume.
Relationships that last.

Across my recruiting career, I've recruited mortgage professionals representing billions of dollars in mortgage production volume. Behind that volume are people, teams, referral relationships, and families whose futures matter.

Most of the people I recruited are still at the companies they joined through me. That's something I take real pride in. I want the opportunity we discuss to make sense long after the transition.

HOW I LEAD

The relationship doesn't end at “yes.”

Getting a great person into an organization is important. Helping that person succeed once they're there is what makes it meaningful.

I believe a strong recruiting relationship should be candid about compensation, systems, management support, onboarding and business strategy. That includes talking through the difficult questions before anyone makes a decision.

01Listen before pitching.
02Tell the full story, not just the highlights.
03Prioritize fit and long-term success.
04Stay engaged beyond the transition.
